Karpal Singh has sent a letter of demand to former premier Dr Mahathir
Mohamad, demanding an apology within three days or face legal action. This follows a blog post by Mahathir against DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang (left), who is the Gelang Patah parliamentary candidate in Johor.
In the letter of demand sent yesterday, it was claimed that the blog post entitled ‘Gelang Patah’ on April 11, 2013 was defamatory to Lim.
It was alleged that the Mahathir had described Lim as being a racist who does not respect the sensitivities of a multi-cultural society, and that he intends to create racial disharmony and hatred among the Malay and Chinese in Gelang Patah.
It was further claimed that the article had painted a scenario in which Lim would initiate violent clashes between the different races, as well as deprive the Malays economically.
Karpal said that, if Mahathir does not retract the article within three days, then legal proceedings would be initiated.
Lim has said that he wants Mahathir to be charged with sedition and defamation following the claims.
