KOTA KINABALU:
Malaysia United People’s Party (MUPP) has announced that it will
contest all parliamentary and state seats in the country in the 13th
general election, except Sarawak where the state election was held last
year. Its president Shuhaiddin Lungkap said he would not back down from his stand to have his party candidates fielded in all 222 federal and 505 state constituencies in the general election.
Shuhaiddin told a press conference here yesterday that almost all states had submitted their respective candidate lists and MUPP was in the process of sorting out overlapping names especially in Sabah, Kedah and Penang.
He added that there were several seats in Sabah still available for interested candidates from any parties who are not fielded by their own leaderships.
“For the other states, the issue was easily resolved. I hope those who are not selected as candidates will not give up, and I appeal to them to continue supporting the struggle of MUPP, because only through MUPP can we realize Sabah’s dream.
“I also call on all MUPP members across the country to continue campaigning to ensure a victory for our party as MUPP’s victory is a victory for the people,” he said.
He advised party members who are not satisfied with the candidates selected to contact him directly, and not listen to any rumours or media reports that contradicts MUPP’s struggle.
Earlier, Shuhaiddin accepted the entry of pro tem committee of Parti Kemajuan Kerjasama Rakyat Sabah (Pakar), led by its chief Zainal Nasiruddin, into MUPP.
He also noted that MUPP will be launching its manifesto in a day or two, where it will also announce its final candidate list for the coming election.
