KLANG: Outgoing Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M. Manoharan's 16-year-old daughter has called for a press conference to over her father being dropped from the party's candidates' list.
“The DAP made use of my father and are refusing to allow him to defend the Kota Alam Shah seat which he won in the last election.
“It is unfair and I am very angry with the way my father has been treated,'' said 16-year-old Shivaranjini.
She will be giving her press conference at a restaurant in Klang's little India at 5.00pm today.
Shivaranjini said the DAP's refusal to allow her father to defend his seat was a major disappointment to her and her two younger brothers.
“My father was detained under the ISA (Internal Security Act) when the last election took place.
“My brothers and I walked all over the constituency in rain and shine campaigning for my father.
“We too had worked hard for the party to win and what has happened now is sad and disappointing for us,'' she added.
Manoharan's wife S. Pushpaneela said she couldn't stop her daughter from speaking-up or organising the press conference.
“She's already 16 and can form her own opinions. Shivaranjini had contributed a lot during her father's campaign,'' said Pushpaneela.
Pushpaneela, who will be contesting as an independent for the state seat, said Manoharan had so much of trust and faith in the DAP and did not deserve to be discarded in such a way.
Meanwhile, when contacted Manoharan said he was very disappointed with the party leadership's stance of not explaining to him why he was being dropped.
“They should at least tell me why,'' said Manoharan adding that he has been calling DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, chairman Karpal Singh and secretary-general Lim Guan Eng since yesterday but none of them had answered his calls.
He said he had even called former Puchong MP Gobind Singh Deo, who is Karpal's son, to find out why he was dropped but his call had also gone unanswered.
He said the only DAP leader who answered his call was former Selangor speaker Datuk Teng Chang Khim.
“Only Teng answered my call, the others just ignored me and it is very hurtful and disappointing as I have served the party well,'' said Manoharan.
DAP had dropped Manoharan in favour of V. Ganabathirao who was also detained under the ISA.
